Worktrade Opportunity at Earthsong Summer 2017

Dates: Beginning June 1st, 2017

We have a 6 week work & skills exchange program starting June 1st, 2017. We are a small family homestead and sanctuary in the south point of the big island of Hawai’i. We are looking for hard working and conscientious people, who desire to expand their skills and knowledge, in some or all of the following: landscaping design & maintenance, carpentry, off-grid solar, painting, gardening, permaculture/natural farming, building projects, animal husbandry, food preparation, herbal medicines, arboriculture, plumbing & irrigation, healing arts, personal health & wellness, personal development, living off-grid, living in Aloha. Experience and background knowledge in these areas is an asset. Couples preferred. Having a keen interest to learn, and willingness to live rustically, is a must. The work may vary daily, and will depend on the current projects we have on the go!

Epic view at the end of our street ~ Ka’Lae South Point facing west toward Kona

This is a truly powerful, magical, and epic area of the big island to discover, but the location is remote. Neighboring farms and coffee shop are within walking distance. Bus runs to/from Hilo & Kona daily, and hitch hiking is very common and safe on the island.

We will provide room & board, hot shower, kitchen, and facilities. Work exchange happens during the week and weekends are off.

If you are interested please email aloha[at]earthsonghawaii[dot]org with some information about yourself.

Fall 2016 News from Earthsong Hawaii!

Wow! We can hardly believe it’s been almost a year since we moved to Earthsong! It has also been a long time since we’ve posted an update. We’ve had our heads down, working hard on the land and restorations. Also, maybe laying a little low waiting for this election year to pass – it’s a bit of a doozey!

We’ve been so blessed to have so many helping hands come stay and put their love and devotion into the restoration projects. So much gratitude to our Wwoofers: Phil, Tim, Sonia, Yesenia, Gabriel, Linnzi, Matt, Molly, Becca (Spirit), Seed, Hedi, Eddi, Dushan, Al, Liam, Eva & Jakub to name a few!! Big Mahalo to Jaime and Kaonohi for Malama Aina with Kalo, Kava and Sweet Potato planting as well as Poi making workshop! If there’s anyone else we’ve forgotten – thank you, thank you!

Our biggest restoration project and goal was to have the front hale fully renovated and ready to receive guests. We’re happy to announce that Hale Aloha was completed in September and we’ve been getting great reviews from our first visitors! We put on our DIY hats and taught ourselves how to build a bathroom from the ground up, install our own plumbing, floors, walls and roofing. We were hands-on with every aspect of the Hale Aloha renovations, and it was a very rewarding experience to challenge ourselves and learn new skills. Thank you to Heath and Andrea for help with the roof and Sergio with the demo and walls. An extra special thanks to Mom & Dad for your love and support with this project! 🙂

The Mandala ~ Earthsong 2016

Since then, we’ve had an opportunity to continue expanding our DIY skills towards the restoration of the Mandala Cabin, featuring 1 bedroom with plush california-king bed, deck with thatch roof, outdoor bamboo bath house and bamboo walled outdoor shower! Spend an afternoon in a hammock taking in the South Point breeze and aroma of Eucalyptus, Ginger and Plumeria flowers! The Mandala Cabin is perfect for a private healing eco-retreat.

Hugelkultur garden bed being built ~ Earthsong 2016

The farm side of Earthsong has also been moving along at a steady pace. We have a private goat pen for our two naughty Nigerian Dwarfs, Yemaya and Hina. This past week we cleared the land around the fire circle (imagine all that grass in the image above being gone) and started building hugelkultur mound garden beds. Hugelkultur is a great way for us to use up the abundance of bio-mass we’ve gained from taking the jungle back this year! Our roosters and hens will have their very own coup to roost in soon! They currently roam free around the neighborhood ~ expanding the family 😉

The practice space ~ Earthsong 2016

The retreat center at Earthsong has been making nice strides as well. Nearly all rooms have been fully renovated and ready for guests. Now also featuring solar power, and a bamboo walled outdoor shower! We have plans for renovating two more bathrooms and reviving the water feature ponds and stone Watsu tub.

We are looking forward to hosting The Institute of Shamanic Medicine here in December. There are only 2 spaces left for The Body Power program. If you or someone you know has interest in attending – don’t delay!

Fire and the Moon with Be Nadine Stevens and Myriam Kouzam is an amazing opportunity to Replenish, Re-Member and Reconnect with who we truly are. The retreat runs from February 5-12, 2017 and will book up full. Please contact us for booking information.

We are pleased to have some of our favorites guests and previous Wwoofers, Molly Kubes and Matt Bontje, back at Earthsong in February 2017 hosting the Aloha Prana ~ Yoga Adventure and Bliss Retreat!

If you’re in Hawai’i you may see us in the latest edition of Living Aloha magazine, so please look out for that. If you’ll be on the Big Island November 12th, then you won’t want to miss the 7th Annual Kohala ‘Āina Festival in Hawi ~ maybe we’ll see you there! 🙂

In the works and coming soon at Earthsong Hawaii: The Eco-living Healing Lifestyle Immersion Program and Personalized Custom Healing Retreats. Stay tuned for updates.

We have some surprise special guests, events and workshops planned for 2017 and beyond. Please check in often ~ we’ll be posting updates more frequently moving forward … promise. : )

We Did It!

Medicine Wheel at Earthsong 2001

Medicine Wheel at Earthsong 2001

Well, It’s been just over three years since we set our hearts on starting an eco-sanctuary and retreat on Hawaii’s Big Island. It wasn’t without trial and tribulations that we find ourselves here today. We have endured two hurricanes, a lava flow and a total of six moves to finally make it through to the other side! Several times we thought we found “the place” only to have it suddenly fall through at the last minute. Perhaps we needed to go through those trials and refine and develop our skills, so we would be ready… perhaps Pele was testing us?

Burning Brush at Earthsong 2016

Burning Brush at Earthsong 2016

We are very pleased to announce the island has opened her arms to us and we are taking our next big step on our journey! Our new home is called “Earthsong” (Na Mele O Ka Aina)! “Our Big Dream” is coming to fruition and it is with Big Hearts and Gratitude we humbly do our Great Work in Stewardship of Earthsong and Dream her back into Being!

Earthsong was originally formed in 1985, and for almost 20 years ran as a dharmic retreat center for spiritual seekers, in the care of Rashani Rea. Over those years, many seekers on and off the island found their way to Earthsong. Oddly enough some of those people became our friends before we even moved here. It seems serendipity is playing a key role on our journey. In 2004 care for Earthsong changed hands and the name was nearly forgotten. It has been over 10 years since Earthsong has been held in dharmic intent. We feel very strongly that she wants be cared for in that way again and maybe that has played a part in calling us to be here now. There is a lot of work needed to restore Earthsong back to her former glory and beyond, but it is very good work, and we are holding space for the right people to come here and be a part of the restoration process. We recognize we can’t do it all ourselves.

We have been living at Earthsong for only a few short months and already so much has happened. We’ve had six helping hands come and stay so far. They each played a special part in bringing the land to life once again. It’s been inspiring and expansive to see and feel how the aina responds to visitors, and the intense energy and connection to the spirit of this land within us. Our guests experience great shifts while visiting and we have been refining our role within that movement of energy each time it occurs. We have already learned so much about ourselves and can only imagine what’s in store!

Earthsong Eco-Sanctuary and Retreat, March 2016

The space is already starting to transform and open up. The overgrowth of trees, vines and weeds that once seemed insurmountable are starting to look less intimidating. When we first arrived we could only comfortably house ourselves and now we already have simple, clean and rustic accommodations for up to 15 people! The more we work, the more energy we receive and the more blessed we feel!

Our hearts are beaming with joy that we’ve found a new home for our family on the island. We are so grateful to have the opportunity to work on the restoration of Earthsong and we are holding space for our extended family and friends to come and share in the joy, abundance and deep transformation this land has to offer. Thank you to all of you who have been with us on our journey and for your continued support, and welcome to those who have found your way here now!

Much more to follow…stay tuned!

In Deep Gratitude and Warmest Aloha,
Michael * Jillian * Cedar * Rupert * Lyra, the Peacocks and the Kitties
